League Information

The ALVL is a non-profit women’s league which provides enjoyment, recreation, and friendly competition through the playing of volleyball.

The calibre is high-recreational. The ALVL is not intended for complete beginners nor is it a teaching space. We do not practice, we only play games. This is organized volleyball, players must have some volleyball knowledge/skills, know how to rotate, and be able to control the ball enough to play a three hit game and maintain/extend a rally. Due to the physical nature of the sport, it is essential that all participants possess this minimum level of skill, physical agility and the awareness necessary to safely engage in team competition.

  • The season runs from the beginning of October to mid-May. We have an attendance requirement of 75%. When registering you must be able to commit to attending weekly for the full season.
  • Games are played one evening per week (usually Tuesday) in a school gym located in Ancaster.
  • We maintain a roster of 64 permanent players – 8 teams of 8 players each.
  • We maintain a waitlist of those who wish to join the league.
  • We accept individuals only. There are no opportunities to join as a team or in a group that wishes to play together.
  • Registration takes place throughout the summer for the following season.
  • Spots are offered to permanent members first. We then fill any spots vacated by the permanent players with those on the waitlist (in order by the date they joined the waitlist).
  • Players are drafted to a team each season by the league executive. Care is taken to ensure each team has a similar mix of players of varying skill levels and the teams are as equal as possible.

Membership Requirements

  • You must be 21 years of age or older.
  • You must reside in Ancaster, Jerseyville or Glancaster.

The Registration Process

  • Permanent members are notified by email when registration opens and must respond and pay by the deadline given. Members can:
    • Register to claim their spot
    • Give up their spot (retire from the league)
    • Take a one-year leave of absence
  • If spots are available following the permanent member registration period, those on the waitlist will be invited to register in the order they joined the waitlist.
  • If a waitlisted player chooses to register, they may be:
    • Given a permanent spot (if a permanent member has chosen to retire)
    • Given a replacement spot for a single season. In this case, they will play the full season and then return to the waitlist (retaining their original spot by date) at the end of the season.
  • If a waitlisted player declines an available spot, they will be given the choice of moving to the bottom of the waitlist or removing their name from the waitlist.
  • Partial season spots may also be available should a registered player need to discontinue play. Players on the waitlist may be contacted by email, at any time during the season, to fill these spots. Details will be supplied at that time.
